The much-awaited worldwide commemoration of the International Museum Day is just around the corner, and that means free admission on museums, as well as exclusive activities and tours.
The worldwide community of museums will be celebrating International Museum Day on May 18, Friday. A perfect way to start the weekend!
It’ll definitely be a bummer to miss this wonderful one-time event to have a glimpse of the most interesting art pieces housed together under one roof, but worry not! Ayala Museum in Makati will be having their grand celebration this weekend, on May 20, Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.! So, no need to sulk! Come on and join the fun!

Being one with this year’s theme “Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics” in raising awareness and highlighting the importance of embracing technology and innovation as a huge part of change up in museum experiences to gain new audiences, Ayala Museum takes pride in being fearless when it comes to the use of technology in enhancing the more traditional features of the museum.
This is hard to miss. Check out the museum’s current changing exhibits — Erwin Wurm’s One Minute Sculptures, “an exhibit that embraces the act of the selfie, where you become part of the art.”
A breakthrough from the ordinary? Here, wear a bucket on your head and be a part of the art. This is becoming the literal definition of “I am the art”.

Also, check out Alwin Reamillo’s ‘Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House’ which showcases a new approach to art as it depicts the Philippine tradition of carrying an entire ‘bahay kubo’ whenever its residents need to move to another town.

The museum also houses its long-standing collections — Gold of Ancestors, the Dioramas of Philippine History, A Millennium of Contact, Art and the Order of Nature, and the artworks of Fernando Zobel created in the 1960s.
Watch out for great workshops such as the Fujifilm Instax Workshop on creating Instax paper lanterns from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., to be followed by an artist talk by Alwin Reamillo who will be talking about the Sydney-to-Manila journey of ‘Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House’ from 5 pm to 6 pm.
