LRMC champions the spirit and value of education with the launch of Gabay Guro 2018

In honor of the Filipino educators’ role in molding the minds of our country’s future, LRT-1 operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and PLDT Smart Foundation, today launched the Gabay Guro Train. Adding to the themed train initiatives of LRMC, Gabay Guro Train will run for a year, starting September 5.

The Gabay Guro Train will use an LRT-1 Generation 3 train with reading and learning for the motif. It features various school-related images and literature, such as a library-designed interior, handrail poles designed as coloring materials, printed graduation caps on train windows, and inspirational quotations about education that can be found on different parts of the train.

“Like teachers who tirelessly guide and educate students, LRMC wants to promote reading and the love for books in the daily life of passengers beyond the four walls of the classroom,” LRMC President and CEO Juan Alfonso says. “The graduation caps represent successful professionals across different industries, who would not have been there if it wasn’t for teachers. LRMC recognizes the significant role played by educators in promoting the well-being of their students and in achieving success in their careers.”

The Gabay Guro Train seeks to stimulate the minds of its passengers by posting questions about basic grammar, logic, history, and other trivia on the train’s handrails, which commuters can ponder on during their idle time at the train. The public is invited to tweet or post their answers on their social media accounts, and tag @officialLRT1 on Twitter and Instagram to win exciting prizes, including loaded beep cards and ikotMNL tour packages.

The initiative was inspired by the positive feedback from the public on the previous themed trains for Valentine’s Day and Christmas. The LRMC aims to promote an improved and enjoyable riding experience for LRT-1 passengers through themed trains.
